It is about people.
For almost two decades, First Contact has invested in our people to help them have a safe and enjoyable time with the company. We are committed to developing opportunities for our people to succeed at work, in their careers, and personal lives. We are proud of the qualifications we have helped our staff achieve, the friendships that have been forged, and the careers they have moved into with organisations like the Police, Corrections, Immigration, and Parliamentary Services (to name a few) as a result of our business. Our staff have been exposed to some of the most challenging and exciting environments where they have exceeded their own expectations on how they managed it. They have also had the opportunity to work with some truly amazing people like Sir Elton John, Eminem, Queen and Adam Lambert and so many others.
We may not get it right every time, however, we are committed to trying. This page sets out our Vision, Mission Statement, and ethos of what makes a great Professional Security Officer.
This page not only sets out our position, it sets a standard for our staff and clients to hold First Contact to as well.

Our People
It all starts with people. Working in the security industry will expose you to a lot of different scenarios that you will need to create solutions for on the spot. The solution you choose will contribute to the outcome you experience. The most common mistake people make is not fully understanding the environment; therefore, they formulate the wrong solution. The good news is, most solutions only require common sense; the rest we will teach you.
Individuals who enjoy the security industry not only have a good common sense but also a great sense of humor, a lot of patience, and understand they are dealing with people who might not always agree with them; however, remain professional and committed to a positive outcome. The only other attributes are a willingness to learn and the ability to apply what you have been taught.
We appreciate that not everyone learns the same way, and or teaching team have extensive experience in getting everyone through their qualifications. To us, training is about progress, not perfection.
Our values
Ko Mātou
This is who we are
First Contact was established in April 2002 and is a family-owned business domiciled in Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington). From the outset, we have always maintained the belief that through the empowerment and development of our people, we not only develop their self-confidence and ability to operate safely and professionally but, as a side-product, deliver a superior level of customer service. Our investment in our people has been an entrenched ethos for two decades, and we are proud of being able to encourage and assist our staff in achieving their goals. Recently, Aotearoa, New Zealand, experienced the turmoil and confusion of a terrorist attack and a global pandemic; we are proud of how our people met these challenges with the focus, confidence, and professionalism that contributed to their safety and that of anyone else in their environment.
Tauwhiro
To keep safe, protect, support
We acknowledge the security industry carries inherent safety risks; however, the safety of our people is paramount. Exposure to abuse and or harm is unacceptable. We are committed to ensuring all of our people receive ongoing tereina (training) to build their confidence by having the right skills to manage their deployed environments safely and professionally.
Manaakitanga
hospitality, kindness, generosity, support - the process of showing respect, generosity and care for others
An underpinning value is the ongoing development of our people regardless of the duration of employment or background. We believe that by developing the person, raising their mana through supportive education, inclusiveness, and exploring opportunities, our people strengthen their self-belief and self-value, changing how they contribute at work, home and in the community.
