External perspective

We have identified a growing trend in potential and actual critical situations, ranging from verbal abuse to physical assault towards our security officers. Incident reports show our people are encountering higher levels of aggression for a lot of lesser reasons. While most of this can be attributed to people in a diminished capacity due to medical conditions, drugs, and or alcohol at events and licensed premises, it is not exclusive to these environments. It is being encountered across all security sectors.

It is accepted that the security industry has an inherently high risk factor, and our security officers are expected to manage a dynamic range of people correctly 100% of the time. To achieve this goal and keep everyone safe, we have an entrenched and extensive training program that all of our people work through in a classroom environment.

Due to this increasing trend of violence, we are reviewing our training, policies, and procedures with a specific focus on two points;

  1. How we approach and interact with the public

  2. How we can better protect ourselves from abuse and assault

Our people do not deserve to be abused and even assaulted while trying to do their job. We acknowledge that sometimes they will play a part in the altercation; however, our focus is to identify and implement ways to mitigate as many factors as possible and keep everyone safe.

How you can help?

We would appreciate your thoughts on this so our team can discuss how to best address these issues and ensure a professional, safe, and welcome workspace.

Thanks in advance - Darryl.
